Caroline Springs was envisioned as a fully planned new community for more than 27,000 people to the west of Melbourne.
This new township was designed to incorporate a full range of schools, shopping centres, transport, community facilities, open space, walking and cycling paths and employment opportunities.
A diversity of housing styles, types and lot sizes would ensure choices to new residents.
A key feature of the site, the Kororoit Creek, contributes its natural beauty to the public landscape of the town. This coupled with other natural watercourses which flow across the land become flora and fauna habitats and sources of irrigation water for public land areas.
The original concept as designed by Coomes provided for a sustainable development through various means including the incorporation of a recycled water use system to provide a high quality non-potable water supply for domestic and public land irrigation. This system would result in water conservation, improved landscape growth, reduced infrastructure requirements and less demand on existing water and sewer infrastructure.
